Most palm tree varieties require fertilization 2-3 times per year. First application should occur once the danger of frost has passed. Repeat fertilization every 6-8 weeks throughout the growing season. Cease applications at least 6 weeks before average first frost date.
For established plants, utilize the table to determine amount of fertilizer to be used. Spread fertilizer evenly under the canopy starting 1 foot away from the trunk and moving outwards to the drip line. If possible, work fertilizer into the top 3″ of soil.
For new trees, wait two months from planting before first application, then follow instructions for established plants
Vegetable Gardens & Flower Beds:
To prepare new gardens, apply 1-2 lbs per 100 square feet and thoroughly mix into the top 3″ of soil. For new transplants, add 1-2 tsp per hole, mix into soil and water in well. To feed established plants, side dress 1-2 tsp per plant once each month during the growing season.
Containers:
For new plantings, add 1-2 tbsp per gallon of soil and mix thoroughly OR add 2.5 lbs per cubic yard. For established plants, lightly mix 1-2 tsp per gallon into the soil surface once each month during the growing season.
